CBCl Meeting on S.C. Christians

The Bishops of India gathered at St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary Kottayam, Kerala from April 13-22, 1988 proposed and unanimously passed the following resolutions: It is resolved to inform the Government of India that the Christians of Scheduled Castes Origin suffer from extreme social, educational and economic backwardness arising out of the traditional practice of untouchability. It is further resolved to request the Government of India to take early steps to suitably amend para 3 of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order 1950 to include the Christians of Scheduled Castes Origin in the list of Scheduled Castes.
